Tim Logan obit picture
Timothy Roy Logan, son of Victor and Mildred Logan, passed away peacefully at his home on November 15, 2014 at the age of 67.
Tim grew up in Washington County, MO, attended the one-room, Pea Ridge grade school, graduated from Sullivan High School in 1964, and attended the Kansas City Art Institute. In 1967, Tim married Linda Zelch of Japan, MO and they had three children.
Shortly after getting married, the newlyweds started their adventure together with a move to Buffalo, NY and then on to Houston, TX, before finally returning to the Washington County area to put down their roots.
Tim started his painting career in industrial coatings and sand blasting, working on bridges, barges, and water towers. He transitioned into painting commercial and residential buildings, and for 17 years, owned T Logan Painting, specializing in historical restoration. He was particularly proud of his restoration work on many of the pavilions at Tower Grove Park in St. Louis. From 1984 to 1993, he and Linda also owned the local Sullivan Sears Catalog store. After working in St. Louis all day, he would deliver and install appliances in the evening.
Tim’s true passion was woodworking. He had sawdust in his blood, sawdust in his hair and clothes, and scattered sawdust all through the house. He designed and built their home, much of the furniture, and the beautiful turned bowls and vases that decorated every shelf. From the paintings on the walls to the sculptures in the yard, his artistic touch was everywhere.
Tim enjoyed traveling, having been to all 50 states, most of the Canadian provinces, and even South Korea. He never missed a chance to dance, especially a slow waltz, he enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, and his favorite food was anything chocolate.
One of Tim’s joys in early retirement was helping friends and family build their own homes. He traveled as far as Nevada and Hawaii to share his time, labor, and expertise. Another joy of retirement was clearing out brush, mowing fields, and burning brush piles. He took pride and pleasure in transforming Washington County woods into his personal park. One of his final projects was planting hundreds of oak and walnut seedlings for future generations to enjoy.
He is survived by Linda, his wife of 47 years; son Timothy (Tee) and wife, Ginger, of Pearland, TX; daughter Amy and husband, Lloyd, Herbert of Shiloh, IL; and daughter Lilly and husband, Rodney, Haanpaa of Sullivan, MO, as well as nine grandchildren: Jeremiah, Mitchell, Madeline, Grayson, Lincoln, and Lydia Herbert; Tyler and Andrew Haanpaa; and Fairen Childs. He is also survived by his brother Ted Logan with his wife, Nancy, and his sister Sue with her husband, Ronnie, Miller. His extended family by marriage include the Zelch’s: Dot, Glenn and Barbara, Clyde, Fred and Kathy, Joe and Sharon, Vern and Sheila, Randy and Barb, Steve and Deanna, and Krystal and Dennis Hulsey.
He was preceded in death by his parents Victor and Mildred Logan, brother-in-law Charlie R. Zelch, sister-in-law Sharie Jean Zelch, and three nephews: David Miller, Zach Zelch, and Kyle Zelch.
A memorial gathering was held on Friday, November 21 at the Bourbon Community Center beginning at 4 p.m. with the memorial service at 6 p.m.
