Lankford “Dusty” Ray Whitehurst, of Sullivan, MO, lost his battle with cancer in the comfort of his home on November 16, 2016.
Dusty was born in Roanoke, VA, on July 29, 1946. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. During his two years of service, Dusty earned a medal for National Defense Service.
He was a truck driver for many years until he settled in Sullivan, MO, where he was employed by Plaze, Inc. in St. Clair, MO.
Dusty had a heart of gold when it came to animals. This showed by the many stray cats he helped. He not only fed the homeless cats, but would get them spayed and neutered to prevent more unwanted litters.
He loved playing Bingo, going to the casinos, scratch-off tickets, his close friends and living his private life.
Dusty was preceded in death by his mother Ruth Moore Whitehurst and his father Corrie Lankford Whitehurst.
He is survived by his step-mother Emily H. Whitehurst, who resides in Virginia; his sister Helen Walton and husband William W. Walton, Jr. from Kentucky; nieces and nephews; dearest friend Diana Baron and many friends who loved him and called him family.
