A.O. Northcutt, Jr.

Archie Northcutt obit colorA.O. Northcutt, Jr., of Sullivan, MO, passed away on Friday, April 1, 2016 at the age of 87 years.

A.O. was born September 19, 1928 at Algire, MO to Archie O. and Cora M. (Witt) Northcutt, Sr. and was raised in the Indian Creek area near Sullivan. A.O. honorably served his country during WWII with the US Navy in the South Pacific Theater. After his discharge, on December 19, 1947, he was united in marriage to Margaret Connolly in Sullivan, MO, and to this marriage three children were born. Shortly after their marriage, A.O. and Margaret briefly moved back to California, where they originally met, and he became employed in a shipyard at Richmond. They came back to the Sullivan area where A.O. worked in construction for a time in St. Louis and later, would go to work for Laclede Gas Company. He retired from there having been employed for over 30 years. During and after his working years, A.O. was self-employed as a farrier. He was an avid coon hunter and enjoyed playing Blue Grass music. He also was an ardent gardener and fisherman. A.O. was a member of the Church of Christ of Sullivan.

He is survived by his wife Margaret of the family home; one son, Archie Northcutt III of the State of Delaware; two daughters, Peggy McPherson and husband Jim of Sparta, MO and Susan Timlin and husband Tony of Leslie, MO; one brother, Calvin Northcutt of Sullivan; two sisters, Minnie Heitkamp of St. Clair, MO and Peggy Schatz of Sullivan; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Along with his parents, A.O. was preceded in death by six sisters, Gertrude Shanks, Mildred Harms, Elsie Manion, Lucille Brizendine, Edith Doemelt and Ruth Hulsey; and by a brother, Charles Witt.

Funeral services were conducted 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 5, 2016 from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Benn Justice officiating. Interment was in Odd Fellows Memorial Cemetery in Sullivan. Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m., Monday evening at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.
