Goldie Black obit colorGoldie Evelyn Black, of Sullivan, MO, passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at the age of 81 years.

Goldie was born in St. Louis, MO on August 8, 1934 to the late Martin Luther and Lillie (Reeves) Brown. She and her family lived in the rural Bourbon area where she attended Fairview School and later was schooled in the Bourbon School System. Goldie was employed briefly at Du Kum Inn and, for a time, at Paramount Headwear and later, with the former International Shoe Company in Sullivan. Goldie was a homemaker until her children were old enough for her to return to her education and attained her GED and then enrolled at East Central College where she received two Associate of Arts Degrees. She then went to work at Chesterfield Mall for Famous Barr and later at Walmart in Sullivan where she was a cashier for 15 years and was beloved by her fellow workers. On November 25, 1954, she was united in marriage to Carl Allan Black in Ste. Genevieve, MO, and to this marriage three children were born. She loved flower gardening and was known to all as a good cook. Goldie also enjoyed reading and was a movie buff. She was a very caring mother and was always supportive of her children and grandchildren. Goldie was also a member of Holy Martyrs of Japan Catholic Church.

She is survived by her husband Carl Black of the family home; one son, Michael Allan Black and wife Janet of Bowling Green, MO; two daughters, Jackie Marie Johnson and husband Terry of St. Charles, MO and Barbara Jean Black of Sullivan; three brothers, Kenny Brown of the State of California, Frank Brown of Springfield, MO and Eddie Brown of Doniphan, MO; one sister, Shirley McIntosh of Cuba, MO; six grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Along with her parents, Goldie was preceded in death by a brother, David Brown.

A mass of Christian burial was celebrated 10 a.m., Saturday, April 16, 2016 from Holy Martyrs of Japan Catholic Church with the Rev. Father John Patrick Day, C.P. officiating. Interment was in the parish cemetery. Visitation was held from 4:30 p.m. until 8 p.m., Friday evening at the Eaton Funeral Home, Clark Street location, in Sullivan. Expressions of sympathy made be made to the Holy Martyrs of Japan building fund or masses are preferred.
