Sheri Scott of Union, Missouri, formerly of Sullivan, passed away on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at the age of 53 years, three months, and 26 days.
Sheri was born on July 15, 1962 at Rockford, Illinois to David and Joyce Silcox. Because of her father’s job, she lived in various places around the country and eventually came to Sullivan. She graduated with the class of 1980 and later went on to receive her Associates Degree in Nursing from East Central College.
Sheri’s main purpose in life was that of a mother. She adored her sons and grandson Ryland. Sheri loved to present Ryland with a gift every time he came to visit from an imaginary friend named “Sulley”. She loved glitz and glitter. Her family would often joke that if she were a fish she would be easy to catch on anything shiny. Sheri was a nurse by occupation and used her vocation to witness and would often pray with those less fortunate. She loved to care for others, so much so, she would often overlook herself. One of her favorite jobs was that of a nurse at a state correctional facility. She would often witness and pray with some of the inmates which was strictly against protocol. Eventually her supervisor laid down the law and told her either to stop praying with the inmates or be fired. Well, she continued to pray with the inmates and the supervisor fired her. If Sheri felt strongly about it – look out! She was small in stature but was strong in her convictions and would not waiver. Sheri always found comfort in prayer and loved to pray with anyone in need. She always said when she reached Heaven, she would be tall with long legs and have a beautiful singing voice. Those of us who love her can almost see and hear her now.
She is survived by two sons; Ryan Matthew Scott of Sullivan, MO and Dillon Lee Scott of Gatlinburg, TN; a grandson, Ryland Matthew Scott; a half-brother and half-sister; other relatives and friends. Along with her parents, Sheri was preceded in death by a brother, Dave Silcox.
Funeral services were conducted 11 a.m., on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Nick Wright officiating. Interment was in Odd Fellows Cemetery. All arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.
