Robert E. “Sugar” Cukrowicz, of Sullivan, MO formerly of South Bend, IN passed away on Monday, February 23, 2015 at the age of 88 years.
He is survived by a daughter, Mary Ann Eaton and husband Jim of Sullivan, MO; two granddaughters, Addie (Eaton) Walters and husband Matt of Vero Beach, FL and Erin (Eaton) Wilkins and husband Cole of Cumming, GA; two great-granddaughters, Adelyn and Lydia Wilkins; cousins, nieces and nephews.
Sugar, as he was known by his family and friends, was the husband of the late Irene (Sieroslawski) Cukrowicz and son of the late Nicholas and Mary (Paprocki) Cukrowicz. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Irvin, Raymond and Arthur Cukrowicz. He was a worker at the former Studebaker Plant and AM General. Sugar honorably served his country during WWII with the U.S. Army in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He was an avid Notre Dame Football fan and never missed a televised game even after moving to Missouri to be with his daughter and son-in-law. Sugar enjoyed tinkering and working with his hands and “invented” many items that were useful around the house. One of his life’s passions was washing and detailing cars at his son-in-law’s and daughter’s family funeral home or anyone else’s car, for that matter, that happened to need sprucing up. He was known for his kindness and generosity, his sweet spirit and gratefulness toward everything and everyone.
Funeral services were conducted 7 p.m., Fri., Feb. 27, 2015 from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, MO, with Pastors Scott Perry and Cole Wilkins officiating. Entombment was at 11 a.m., Monday, March 2, 2015 in St. Joseph Cemetery Mausoleum, South Bend, IN.
Memorials are appreciated to BJC Hospice of Sullivan. Visitation was held on Friday evening from 4-8 p.m. at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.
