Richard C. Johnson

Richard Johnson PictureRichard C. Johnson, age 97 of Cuba, MO, passed away Sunday, March 26, 2017 at Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan.

Richard Cornelius was born on August 31, 1919 in rural St. Clair, MO, to R. Charles and Mary E. (Bruns) Johnson. He was raised in St. Clair and attended school there graduating in 1937. Richard served his country during World War II in the United States Army Air Corps. While in the military, he was united in marriage to Alma McDaniel and two daughters were born to their union, Jo Ellen and Mindy. Richard and Alma made their home in St. Clair where Richard, along with his brothers, Dinger and Kenny started St. Clair Steel which eventually became Belmont Furniture and Trailer Sales. Alma passed away in 2006 and Richard retired soon after in 2008. He was a member of Rotary and the Masonic Lodge in St. Clair. He loved cars, however, his greatest passion was for flying his airplane.

Richard is survived by two daughters, Jo Ellen Peterson of Sacramento, CA and Mindy (Steve) Cowsert of Cuba, MO; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, R. Charles and Mary E. (Bruns) Johnson; his wife, Alma G. (McDaniel) Johnson; three brothers, Belmont “Dinger” Johnson, Robert and Kenny Johnson; one sister, Edna Junge.

It was Mr. Johnson’s wish to be cremated. Services will be held at a later date.

Memorials to Wounded Warrior Project are appreciated.

All arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan and Bourbon, MO.
