Laverne Tongay

Laverne Tongay of Collinsville, IL, passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at the age of 86 years.

Ethel Laverne Broy was born on April 22, 1929 to the late George O. and Vernice C. Furlong Broy at St. Louis, MO. Laverne, as she was known by her family and friends, grew up in St. Louis area and on April 22, 1950, Laverne was united in marriage to Paul C. Tongay and they were blessed with seven children. Laverne was employed by Carter Carburetor for over 20 years as an inspector but her main vocation in life was of a wife and mother.  From 1976 until 1987, Paul and Laverne made their home in the Bourbon and Sullivan area. Paul passed away in 1986 and Laverne moved back to Collinsville to be near her family. For the past several years, she had lived with her daughters who cared for her in their homes. In her free time, Mrs. Tongay enjoyed crocheting, working crossword puzzles and was an avid Cardinals’ Baseball Fan. She will be missed by her family and many friends.

She is survived by seven children; Paul Tongay and wife Mary Kay of Caseyville, IL, Jim Tongay and wife Jeanette of Maxwell, Iowa, Paula Warner and husband, Claude of Seymour, MO, Peggy Jeter-Miller and Terry Miller of Collinsville, IL, Cathy Lasich and husband Edward of Collinsville, IL, Marilyn Schatz and fiancé Richard Bell of Pacific, MO, Tracy DeRossett and husband, Ken of Collinsville, IL; one brother, Gary Broy and wife Margo of Collinsville, IL,  20 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Along with her parents and husband, Paul, Laverne was preceded in death by 2 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and four siblings; Richard “Buddy” Broy, William “Bill” Broy, Audrey Noe and Mary Broy.

Funeral services were conducted 12 p.m. Saturday, April 9, 2016 at the Eaton Funeral Home, 347 North Clark, Sullivan, MO with interment in Bourbon Cemetery, Bourbon, MO.

Visitation for Laverne Tongay was from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, at Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, MO.
