Ben A. Dunakey, of Bourbon, MO, passed away February 29, 2016 at the age of 60 years.
Ben was born on April 16, 1955 in Anchorage, AK to Ben B. and Dorothy E. (Hobbs) Dunakey. His family being in the military; Ben lived in various places around the country. However, the majority of his life was lived in the Sullivan area and he later graduated Sullivan High School with the Class of 1974. Ben later attended college in Neosho, MO, taking classes in water quality and wastewater management. Eventually, he became employed with the City of Tulsa, OK, in their water management department. Ben was known as a knowledgeable individual and was always truthful in his dealing with family and friends. As his children were growing up, he helped manage and coach their baseball teams and also participated in the children’s basketball and soccer teams. Ben was very proud that he helped set-up and build a couple of “Sober Houses” in the Tulsa area while he himself was battling a past dependence problem.
He is survived by one daughter, Ashley “Rae” Dunakey of Bourbon, MO; one son Matthew Dunakey of Tulsa, OK; two sisters, Ruth Anna Cowan and husband Jim of Ellisville, MO and Midge Cummings of Valley, Park, MO; two grandchildren, Caleb Higgins and Chloe Dunakey; other relatives and friends. Ben was also preceded in death by his parents and a brother David Dunakey.
Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 8, 2016 from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, MO with Mr. Ralph Green officiating. Cremation followed the service. Visitation was held from 12:30 until time of service at 2 p.m. at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.
