Virginia Frances Marshall

Virginia Marshall obit colorVirginia Frances Marshall, of Sullivan, MO, formerly of Syracuse, KS, passed away at her daughter’s home, Sullivan, MO, on Sunday, February 14, 2016 at the age of 95.

Virginia was born June 10, 1920 in the Menno Township near Kendall, KS, to Charley H. and Annie Ruth Miller (nee Miller). She was raised in the Kendall, KS area and graduated high school there. On September 12, 1941, she married Charles Lemons. To that union one daughter, Julia Ann, was born. On February 4, 1951, Virginia was united in marriage to Kenneth Marshall in Syracuse, KS. They made their home there, where she worked several jobs over the years; Daugherty’s Drug Store, clerk at SCS office and ASCS office, city clerk, VIP bus driver, and Roy’s Jack and Jill. In 2004, Virginia and Kenneth moved to Sullivan, MO to be close to their daughter and resided there until her death. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Syracuse and just recently received her 50-year membership pin from the Lakin, Kansas Chapter of Eastern Star. Virginia enjoyed gardening and baking. Her favorite pastime was woodworking where she presented both daughters with handmade cedar chests for Christmas in 1989 that became their prized possessions. She was a devoted wife, mother, friend and Grammie who adored her family. If you had Virginia for a neighbor you had a friend for life.

Virginia is survived by one daughter, Valeta Betz and husband Charlie of Sullivan, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Dena Spechtenhauser and husband Dave of Peabody, KS, Sherri Eckermann and husband Rohn of Caldwell, KS, Christopher Eddy and wife Angel of Valley Center, KS, Kimberly Chappius of Washington, MO, Natalie Betz and husband Ken Wolterman of Madison, Wisconsin, Charlene Betz and husband David Wadsworth of Waukon, IA; 15 great-grandchildren, Calvin, Samantha, Victoria, Shelby, Richard, Lauren, Emily, Alex, Kira, Jadyn, Lexi, Anya, Evan, Ameila and Iris; 6 great-great grandchildren, Tayvin, Cruz, Stella, Jada, Maira and Julia; other relatives and many, many friends.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Charley and Annie Ruth Miller; a daughter, Julia Ann Lemons Eddy; 4 brothers, Hank Miller, Clare Miller, Fred Miller, and Don Miller; a sister, Margaret Miller; and a great-granddaughter, Allison Hernandez.

Visitation was held 1-2 p.m., Sunday, February 21, 2016 with memorial service at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Sullivan, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to HALO (Home at Last Organization, for homeless pets, Sullivan, MO) or First Presbyterian Church, Sullivan, MO, in care of Eaton Funeral Home, 347 N. Clark Street, Sullivan, MO 63080. A private ceremony scattering of ashes will be held in the spring at the Syracuse Cemetery, Syracuse, KS.
