Dawn M. Schmidt Renick, of Sullivan, MO, passed away Thursday, January 21, 2016 at the age of 48 years, 4 months and 19 days. Dawn was born on September 2, 1967, in Sullivan, MO, to the late Douglas Arthur Schmidt and Doris Judy (Whiteside) O’Connor. She attended and graduated from Sullivan High School. She was active in sports and cultural arts, and developed and maintained friendships that would last a lifetime. Dawn had a bit of a tomboy-ish side to her while growing up. Very often, she would go out with one grandpa to feed the chickens and check the fences; then go out with the other grandpa to cut wood or help tune-up the old Ford Mustang. Dawn was a baseball fan all of her life and played softball in her younger years. She enjoyed a good scary movie or a murder mystery show or book. Dawn was fond of reading and was an accomplished Crossword puzzle solver; oftentimes starting a puzzle with someone while corroborating and competing with them at the same time. She was an animal lover and a stray dog or cat’s best friend (especially the cats) and was a great supporter of Halo in Sullivan. Born in the late 1960’s and having grown up in the 1970’s, Dawn loved the music and culture of that time period and now and then enjoyed playing the part of a flower child. Dawn’s absolute favorite music performers where Elvis Presley, the Beatles, Fleetwood Mac and Elton John. She enjoyed attending Rock concerts in St. Louis with her husband Gail and was absolutely giddy when they attended a Paul McCartney concert. When attending Elton John concerts, she and Gail sang every song together…Gail even played Elton John music as he proposed to her back in the 1980’s. Dawn was employed in a wide range of occupations over the years that included Apollo of the Ozarks, working at the former Bobber Café in Sullivan and Cowan’s Restaurant in Washington. She was also employed for a time in Lawn and Garden care at Walmart and later, was employed by Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants in Sullivan and Washington where she later became manager. Later, she worked at Magnet Incorporated in Washington in the silk screening department. Dawn came back to this area to work at Paramount Apparel, Inc. in Bourbon, MO, and with her experience, she was soon promoted to second shift Supervisor in the Packing Department. It was there that Dawn finished the rest of her working career. Dawn loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews. She is survived by her husband, Gail Renick of Sullivan; her mother, Doris O’ Connor and husband, Kelly of St. James, MO; one brother, Douglas Schmidt and wife, Nicole of Stanton, MO; three sisters, Sherry Cios of Reno, Nevada, Rhonda Miller and husband, Kenneth of Leasburg, MO, Jennifer Friedmann and husband, Dan of Eureka, MO; her mother-in-law, Norma Renick of Sullivan; three aunts, Shirley Summers and Lois Coleman, both of Sullivan, Mary Joiner and husband James of St. James; Wayne Long, who Dawn considered family; brother- in-law, Dr. Garrel Renick of Columbia, MO; sister–in-law, Glenda Schroeder and husband, Ray of Washington, MO; nieces, nephews, other relatives and life-long friends.
