Virginia M. Scott of Sullivan, Missouri passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at the age of 85 years.
Virginia was born on May 11, 1930 in the Evergreen Loop area near Leslie, Missouri to the late David and Bertha (Collins) Gilcrease. She lived in that area until around the age of 11 when the family moved to the Indian Creek area in Washington County. She was a graduate of Sullivan High School and then attended Southwest Missouri State University, now Missouri State University. Virginia later attained her Bachelors of Science degree in Education from Southeast Missouri State University at Cape Girardeau, Missouri. She taught in several rural country schools and later in the Richwood School system and then Potosi were she retired. On June 11, 1949 she was united in marriage to Vernon Duane (Jim) Scott and to this marriage four children were born. Mr. Scott preceded Virginia in death in January of 2001. Virginia especially enjoyed fishing and was known as a hard worker who was fond of sewing, gardening, flowers and birdwatching. When her children were young, she guided them through the 4-H Club. Virginia was a member of Maple Grove Baptist Church and later Temple Baptist Church in Sullivan.
She is survived by a son, James T. Scott and wife Dr. Barbara Dixon-Scott; three daughters, Verna Faye Mercille and husband Charles of Mineral Point, Missouri, Vicki Lynne McGraw and husband Butch of Owensville, Missouri and Deborah Kay Hennecke of Omaha, Nebraska; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Ina Mae Koch and husband Forrest and Betty June Scott and husband George.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 31, 2016 from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Tim McCarty officiating. Interment was in Reynolds-Scott Cemetery, rural Sullivan, in Washington County, Missouri. Visitation was held from 12:00 p.m. until time of service at 2:00 p.m. at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.
