Gayle Norman Orr, of Bourbon, MO passed away Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at the age of 81 years, five months and two days.
Mr. Orr was born on August 11, 1934 in Meta, MO to the late Elzie and Dulcy (Burns) Orr. He was raised there as a youngster and later in life on March 16, 1957, was married to Caralee Manion in Hernando, MI. He was an ironworker by trade and his job took him various places within the United States. Gayle received his 55-year pin last year and was the only one in his age group to do so. Retiring in 1993, he continued as an inspector of construction sites for Brummen Engineering. Mr. Orr mentored and trained his sons and grandsons in the ironwork trade and was known as a man with an outgoing personality. In his retirement, he and Caralee enjoyed traveling and wintered in Yuma, AZ until 2012. At their winter home complex, he was a maintenance man and was relied upon to repair anything that the residents might need to be repaired. In his younger days, Gayle enjoyed quail and squirrel hunting and was especially fond of gigging. He was a member of Ironworks 396 of St. Louis and was raised in the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife, Caralee (Manion) Orr, two sons, Gayle “Scott” Orr and wife, Kathy of Bourbon, David Orr of St. Peters, MO, three daughters, Tammy Harmon and husband, David of Bourbon, Michelle Gowen and husband, Steve of Hillsboro, TN, Susan Savant and husband, Tracy of Bourbon, 13 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Along with his parents, Gayle was preceded in death by one grandchild, Dereck Savant; two brothers, Marshall Orr in infancy and Earl Orr; and one sister, Genevieve McKee.
Memorial services were conducted at 7 p.m. Saturday, January 16, 2016 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, MO with Pastor Ed Carter officiating. A gathering of family and friends was held from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, January 16, 2016 at the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, MO.
