Jimmie L. Jones obit colorJimmie L. Jones, of Sullivan, MO, passed away Saturday, January 9, 2016 at the age of 84 years, seven months and 22 days.
Mr. Jones was born on May 17, 1931 in St. Clair, MO, to the late Ernest and Gladys (Ogle) Jones. He had lived the majority of his life in the Sullivan area and was a graduate of Sullivan High School. On December 21, 1951, Jimmie was united in marriage to Bernice “Doll” Lombard at Glenolden, Pennsylvania and to the marriage six children were born. He honorably served his country during the Korean War with the U.S. Army. He had been employed in the Mining Industry the majority of his life having worked at the former Pea Ridge Mine in Sullivan and as a Mine Inspector with the U.S. Department of Labor MSHA from which he retired. He was an accomplished artist, master gardener and builder. He enjoyed singing and was at one time a member of the choir at the First Presbyterian Church and would perform solos and duets. Jimmie was also a member of the Sullivan Community Choir. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Sullivan where he was an Elder for many years.
He is survived by his wife Bernice “Doll” Jones; three sons, Lee Jones and wife, Huimei (Way-May) of Caledonia, MI, Ken Jones and wife, Sandy of Sullivan, MO and Charlie Jones and wife, Bonnie of Rosebud, MO; three daughters, Marie Flinn and husband, Obby of San Leon, TX, Katherine Holland and husband, Scott of St. Clair, MO and Nancy McCulloch and husband, Mike of Sullivan; one sister, Carolyn Roberts and husband, Ronnie of Sullivan; and a half-brother, Robert Jones; 17 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Along with his parents, Jimmie was preceded in death by three brothers, Ivan, Richard and Delbert Jones and one half brother, George Jones.
Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m., Tuesday, January 12, 2016 from the First Presbyterian Church in Sullivan. Interment was private. Visitation for Mr. Jimmie L. Jones was held from 11 a.m. until time of services at 1 p.m. on Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Sullivan. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the First Presbyterian Church of Sullivan are appreciated. Funeral arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, MO.
