Roy Louis Baldwin of Sullivan, MO, passed away at his home on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at the age of 85 years and nine months.
Roy was born in the New Rock area near Bourbon, MO on September 17, 1929 to the late William and Leona (Servais) Baldwin. He was a graduate of Bourbon High School Class of 1947 and later honorably served his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1953 to 1955. Roy attained the rank of Corporal with the 10th Military Police Company and was a mechanic the in motor pool on all of the military police vehicles. On April 5, 1953 Roy was united in marriage to Joyce Sansouci at Temple Baptist Church in Sullivan and to this marriage two daughters were born. While still in the service, Roy and Joyce moved to Junction City, Kansas in 1954, where he helped organize the First Baptist Church and was a trustee. Later, after moving back to Sullivan, Roy owned and operated Town and Country TV. After several years, Roy became employed at the former Sullivan Community Hospital as a maintenance man and ambulance driver. He worked there for 22 years before leaving to become a maintenance man at Meramec State Park. He retired after 10 years there. Roy was a 51 year member of the Sullivan Volunteer Fire Department and was past Fire Chief and sat on the first Board of Directors when the District was formed. He was a member of Sullivan Lodge #156 Independent Order of Odd Fellows and a 64 year member of Temple Baptist Church. He worked with the youth and was President of the Men’s Brotherhood of Missions. At one time he was chairman of the Board of Deacons. Roy enjoyed camping, fishing and woodworking.
He is survived by his wife Joyce of the family home; two daughters, Kay L. McCowan and husband, Darrell, of Sullivan, and Kim Jones and husband, Thomas, of Sullivan; one granddaughter, Kayla Savant and husband, Michael; other relatives and friends. Along with his parents, Roy was preceded in death by a brother Everett Baldwin and two sisters, Viola and Lucille Baldwin.
Funeral services were conducted 1 p.m., Saturday, June 20, 2015 from Temple Baptist Church in Sullivan with Pastor Scott Perry officiating. The funeral was concluded with Firefighter’s Honors. Interment with Military Honors was in Crow Cemetery, rural Sullivan. Visitation was held Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of service at 1 p.m. at Temple Baptist Church.
