Dario “Skip” Scipioni, of Sullivan passed away at his home on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at the age of 84 years.
Skip, as he was known by his family and friends, was born on March 19, 1931, in Italy to the late Vincent and Ermida (Bartolomeo) Scipioni. He came to live in the United States at the age of seven and was raised in Hibbing, MN. Skip grew up there and was later employed in the iron ore mines. On September 6, 1952, Skip was married to Joan Schley in Virginia, MN and to the union two children were born. He honorably served his country during the Korean War with the U.S. Army. In 1963, Skip moved his family to Sullivan where he was employed at the former Meramec Mining Company and later retired from there (then known as Pea Ridge Iron Ore Company) as a mine captain. In his retirement, Skip enjoyed the outdoors and was fond of gardening, being a handyman, and doing some carpentry work. However, his main love was that of his family. Skip was also a member of Saint Anthony Catholic Church of Sullivan.
He is survived by a son, Randy Scipioni and wife Joyce of Warrenton, MO; one daughter, Judy Hartzell and husband Jim of Sullivan, MO; four grandchildren, Dianna Bartle, James Hartzell, Shawn Scipioni, and Aaron Scipioni; 8 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Along with his parents, Skip was preceded in death by his wife Joan in November of 2008, a brother Gino Scipioni and a sister Mary Scipioni.
Memorial funeral services were conducted 11 a.m., Friday, April 11, 2015 from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with the Rev. Father Paul Telkin officiating. Military honors followed the memorial service under the auspices of the Missouri Military Honors Team. Visitation was held on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. at the Eaton Funeral Home.
