William Michael Todd

wm-toddWilliam Michael “Mike” Todd passed away suddenly at Mercy Hospital in Washington, MO on Monday October 24, 2016 at the age of 56.

Funeral services to celebrate Michael’s life were held at 2  p.m. Saturday, at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with cremation to follow.

Visitation for Michael was from 12-2 p.m. Saturday, October 29, 2016 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, MO.

Michael was born on July 4, 1960 in Kirkwood, MO to Robert Edward Todd and Betty Joyce Todd nee Bass.  He graduated from Sullivan High School in 1979. Michael served his country in the United States Navy and was a proud member of the Gas Workers Union 11-6 and worked for Laclede Gas for 26 years until his retirement on August 31, 2015. Michael was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting in his free time. He was also a die-hard St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Michael is survived by two sons; Michael A. Todd (and wife, Heidi) of Norwich, CT and Robert E. Todd of O’Fallon, MO; his fiancée, Donna Ulsh of Sullivan, MO and her four children: Christi Deignan of Kenosha, WI, Paul Irvin of Imperial, MO, Brad Key of Statesboro, GA, Tyler Areheart of the family home; Donna’s grandchildren, whom he adored; sisters: Becky Hutson of Affton, MO, Gwen Christopher of Leasburg, MO, Michelle Roskowske of Sullivan, MO and Teresa Smith of Steelville, MO; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mike was preceded in death by parents, Robert Edward Todd and Betty Joyce (Roberts), his brother, James Robert Todd; and his grandparents, Fred and Myrtle Bass.

Roland Victor Meiller, Jr.

roland-weiler-obitRoland Victor Meiller, Jr.,  age 79 of Bourbon, MO, lost his battle with cancer on Thursday, October 27, 2016.

He is survived by his wife Barbara (Byrd) Meiller of Bourbon, six children; Lee Cushing, John Meiller, Jerry Johnson and wife Mechele, Debbie Dillon and husband Jeff, Vic Meiller and wife Joan, Vince Meiller; 13 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; three sisters; Judy Stamm, Diane Nicholson and husband Jim, Nancy Hammer and husband Terry all of St. Louis, MO; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Roland was born December 22, 1936 to the late Roland Victor Meiller, Sr. and Marie Theodora Buthe Meiller in St. Louis, MO. He honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1955 to 1959. Mr. Meiller was employed by the United States Postal service until retirement. On May 30, 1963, he was united in marriage of Barbara June Byrd and they enjoyed many happy years together. Roland loved his family, gardening and spending time outdoors.

Mr. Meiller donated his body to St. Louis University School of Medicine.

Edward J. Gross

edward-gross-obit-colorMemorial services for Edward Gross, 91, of Sullivan, were held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 5, 2016 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Rev. Tom Gross officiating.

Visitation was held one hour prior to the service, Saturday at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.

Edward John was born on July 31, 1925 in St. Louis County to the late Arthur T. and Stella M. (Rheinfeld) Gross. Ed’s family moved to Bourbon where he attended and graduated from high school. On November 20, 1943, he was united in marriage to Marjorie “Pat” Haase and five children were born to their union. Ed worked for Lammert’s Furniture in St. Louis before becoming self-employed building cabinets for many local businesses and homes. He was extremely hard working and took much pride in his work. Ed made his final home in Stanton where he enjoyed fishing, traveling and especially loved attending auctions. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Sullivan and a retiree of the Carpenter’s Union of MO.

Ed passed away Thursday, October 27, 2016 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

He is survived by his five children; John Gross (and wife, Vicki) of Sullivan, Rev. Tom Gross (and wife, Donna) of Gordenville, MO, Kenny Gross (and wife, Paula) of Sullivan, Marjorie Dearing (and husband, Larry) of Cuba, Kathy Willis (and husband, Phil) of Troy, MO; 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren; 2 great great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Pat; his parents; and two brothers, Desmond and Benjamin Gross.

Memorials to the American Heart Association or American Cancer Society are appreciated.

Mary Katheryn Dollar

mary-katheryn-dollar-obit-colorMary Katheryn Dollar, of Phoenix, AZ, passed away on October 22, 2016 at the age of 94.

Katheryn was born August 3, 1922, at Anthonies Mill, MO, to Charles Henry Summers and Minnie Mae (Turnbull) Summers. She grew up on the farm near Anthonies Mill, and then attended high school in Sullivan, MO.

On April 12, 1941, she married Vernon S. Dollar and had four children. They lived in Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico, and Bourbon, MO, part of which time Vernon served in WWII.

She moved to Phoenix in 1965 with two of her children and worked for AirResearch (Garrett Corp) for approximately 30 years.

Katheryn’s joy in life was caring for her children. She also enjoyed cooking and baking, gardening, music, reading, and painting. She was an incredibly kind and gentle person.

She is survived by her sister, Hazel, her brother, William, her daughter, Sharon and husband Randy, her son, Vernon, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her daughters: Virginia Lee and Judith Ann, her parents, her brother Bob, her sisters: Lucille, Velva, Inez, and Glendora, and her former husband.

A Memorial Gathering will be held Tuesday, Nov. 15 at The Comfort Inn, beginning at 1 p.m. Family and friends are welcome to help celebrate her life.

Visitation will be 12-2 p.m. Thursday, at the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, MO.

Jamie was born at 7:39 a.m., on November 10, 1989 in Oceanside, CA, the son of Michael F. Kleweno and Janet E. Richmond. He moved to Branson, MO, when he was 3 years old and then to Sullivan at the age of 23. Jamie was a loving son, father, brother, and friend. He was always joking and had a wonderful sense of humor. His desire to excel in whatever he endeavored made him unique and very special. He was truly a good person. Jamie knew and loved the Lord from the early age of 5.

Jamie passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2016 in Washington, MO.

He is survived by his mother; Janet Richmond; daughter; Hailey Kleweno and her mother Diana; one sister; Faith; his fiancée; Ashley Wyman and her four children; Iziah, Xzavier, Izabella and Zane; his Aunt Rhonda and Aunt Diane, Uncle Roger and Uncle Tommy, cousins; Keith, Tonya, Michael, Donna, Elizabeth and Joseph and their children.

Jamie was preceded in death by his cousin; Anthony Joseph Fontanello in 2005 and grandparents; Jack and Donna Richmond.

Jamie’s family and friends had a deep love for him and they will truly miss him. Jamie is now safe in the arms of Jesus.

David Grant Walle

Visitation for Grant was from 4-8 p.m., Tuesday, November 1, at the Eaton Funeral Home of Sullivan.

Grant passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at SSM St. Clare Health Center in Fenton, MO.

He was born July 12, 1961 in Sullivan, the son of John and Esther (Matthews) Waller. Grant grew up and attended school in Sullivan. He played on the Championship Eagles football team in 1976 that took 2nd at State. After graduating in 1979, Grant went to work on the farm. On September 14, 1996, he married Laura Braughdagam and to this union their son, Cody was born. A big part of Grant’s life was his participation in tractor-pulling events. He was involved locally as well as many professional competitions nationwide. Grant loved hunting and the outdoors. He was also a gifted welder and could fix or create anything with his torch! Grant will be remembered for being very active in making the Bourbon community and making it a better place to live.

Grant is survived by his son, Cody of Bourbon; his father, John W. Waller of Sullivan; his brother, Scott Waller (and his wife, Patty) of Sullivan; his nephews: J.T. Waller, Matthew Waller, and Timothy Waller; Special family friend, Paula Ray of Leasburg, MO; and numerous other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Esther and sister, Carol Unfress.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Arthur O. Howk

arthur-howk-obit-colorServices for Arthur Howk, 96, formerly of Sullivan, were conducted at 11 a.m., Friday, November 4, 2016 at the Eaton Funeral Home of Sullivan with Father Paul Telken officiating.  Burial followed at Saint Anthony’s Cemetery, Sullivan, MO.

Visitation was from 9:30-11 a.m., Friday, at the Eaton Funeral Home of Sullivan.

Arthur Oliver Howk was born August 12, 1920 in St. Louis, the son of William and Rose (Eicholz) Howk. He married Eileen Stiens December 31, 1949 and to this union two sons were born: Arthur Paul and Raymond Bruce. Arthur was in the Civilian Conservation Corp, US Army Airforce and Reserves with a rank of SGT. During his time in the service, he was stationed on the Pacific Front as a radio operator. Arthur worked a couple of odd jobs and became a printer in 1948 and eventually retired from the trade in 1982. He married Marietta (Hulsey) Wilcox on May 26, 1979. There were no children together from this union, but Arthur inherited a son, Dana Wilcox from Marietta’s previous marriage. 

He enjoyed participating as an assistant Boy Scout Master in the early 1970’s. Arthur was also a member of the Lion’s Club for many years, as well as the Knights of Columbus. He went to St. Anthony’s Church until he moved in with his son, Arthur Paul and his wife due to health problems. He also loved the woods, fishing and gardening.

Arthur passed away Saturday, October 29, 2016 at the MO Veteran’s Home in St. Louis.

He is survived by his sons, Arthur Paul Howk (and wife, Nancy) of St. Ann, MO and Dana Wilcox (and wife, Sharon) of Spanish Lakes, MO; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Arthur was preceded in death by both of his wives, Eileen and Marietta; his sons, Raymond and Lyn; grandchildren, Michael Beeler, Elizabeth Ann Howk, and Christopher Michael Howk; his parents; and siblings: Norma, Dorothy, and Elmer.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Victor L. Brant

Visitation was from 9-11 a.m. Thursday, at the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan.

Victor Leroy was born November 25, 1924 near Spring Bluff, MO, the son of William and Jennie (Holderieth) Brant. He grew up and attended school in Spring Bluff before heading off to St. Louis as a young man. Victor met the love of his life there, Betty Jane Roster. They were united in marriage at Forest Park on August 3, 1950. To this union five children were born: Roger, Linda, Ron, Dan, and Mark. After brief time in St. Louis, they moved the family to St. Clair where they raised their family. Victor spent most of his working life driving commercial truck. He then spent many years driving bus locally. A highlight for him was hauling the East Central College baseball team to Florida for spring training each spring for many years. In recent years, Victor and Betty enjoyed going to Blue Grass music festivals. Most of all he loved time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Victor was a member of the New Testament Baptist Church in Sullivan and a member of the American Historical Trucking Society.

Victor passed away Monday, October 31, 2016 at the Crab Apple Village in St. Clair.

He is survived by his wife, Betty, four sons; Roger Brant (and wife, Rosemary) of Cuba, Ron Brant (and wife, Kay) of Greenbrier, Tennessee, Dan Brant (and wife, Jeannena) of St. Clair, Mark Brant (and wife, Donna) of St. Clair; one daughter; Linda Thurman of St. Clair; 14 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Victor was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Michael; and a sister, Thelma Sedlack.

Memorials contributions may be made to the New Testament Baptist Church of Sullivan.

‘Big Sonny’ Hudson

Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, at the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan.

Merrit Riley Fletcher Hudson known as “Big Sonny” was born on July 15, 1944 to the late Merrit Orville and Ollie Mae (Thompson) Hudson in St. Louis, MO. He grew up and attended school in St. Louis and began his working career at a very early age. In January 1970, Big Sonny was united in marriage to Adele Littlefield. While working for MoDOT, Big Sonny suffered a serious back injury. The family then moved to Lake of the Ozarks, later moving to Sullivan. Big Sonny was very knowledgeable about many things. He was also involved in many activities with his family including; boxing, gardening and motorcycles. He always had a lot of energy and loved to talk. Big Sonny was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Arie # 3781 and V.F.W.  Russell Schmidt Post 3987 of Sullivan.

He passed away Friday, November 4, 2016 at his home in Sullivan.

He is survived by his son; Sonny Hudson (and wife, Deborah) of Sullivan; three daughters: Erica Hudson (and friend, Tim Board) of Sullivan, Laura Hudson (and friend, D. J. Walker) of Leasburg, and Sandy McGowan of Bernie, MO; a son-in-law, Wes Baker of Cuba; 16 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Jeannie Hudson of Sullivan, Betty Massa and husband Bob of Sullivan, Violet Statzel and husband Vern of Desoto, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Big Sonny was preceded in death by his parents; Merrit and Ollie Mae (Thompson) Hudson, his wife; Adele Hudson and four siblings; Roby Hudson, Barbara Hewlett, Fay Marinack, and Joyce Thompson.

Arlie Austin Dixon, Jr.

dixson-2-color dixon-1-colorOn Saturday, November 5th, 2016, at 82 years of age, Arlie Austin Dixon, Jr. passed away peacefully in his sleep at home from natural causes. He was attended by his wife of 58 years, Victoria “Vicki” Dixon, and his beloved cat Princess.

Arlie was a spiritual, generous, gregarious grandfather and father who valued his religion, his family, movies, old Westerns, and his pets. He was born February 1, 1934 in Sullivan, MO to Nanny and Arlie Dixon, Sr. He had a twin sister, Arlene, and 6 more sisters and a brother. 

Arlie served in the Navy in the Korean War on a destroyer in order to “send money home” to his mother and sisters. He and Vicki lived in Mt. Pleasant, IA for 20 years where all five of their children were born. They moved to Farmington, NM in 1979, where Arlie switched careers from being a lineman to owning his own business: Dixon Janitorial Service. Through this business, he gave each of his children a strong work ethic. Arlie was a devout Jehovah’s Witness who, as an anointed, had the heavenly hope. He spent the years of his retirement as a dedicated auxiliary pioneer.

 Arlie is survived by his wife, Vicki Dixon, and his five children: Greg Dixon, Gail Dixon-Willden, Dr. Timothy Dixon, Tamara Dixon, and Crystal Garcia. He also has five great-grandchildren and 13 grandchildren: Jordan, Morgan, Corbin, Logan, Clair, Spenser, Austin, Scarlett, River, Parker, Jade, Cole, and Mykah.

Visitation was held on Thursday, November 10 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home, 103 East Ute St., in Farmington.

Services were held on Friday, November 11 at 1 p.m. at Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home with Elder Tim Minnick officiating.  Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 6917 East Main St., Farmington.

Eva Geraldine Hayes

Eva Geraldine Hayes, known to most as Geraldine, of Richwoods, MO, departed this life in her home, on November 8,2016, having reached the age of eighty-five years, five months and seventeen days.

Geraldine was born in St. Clair, MO, on May 21, 1931, daughter of Robert William Ramey and Evelyn Ramey nee Cash. On July 30, 1948, she was united in marriage to Louis Elmer Hayes and three children came to bless this union. In January of 1987, she began sharing her life with John Gloriod and they were blessed to have twenty-nine years together.

Geraldine is survived by her companion, John Gloriod of Richwoods, MO; by her children, Nancy Gloriod of Sullivan, MO, Sharon Witt and Robert L. Hayes and wife, Shelia, all of Richwoods; by seven grandchildren, Lou Gloriod and wife, RaDawn, of Sullivan, Angie Gloriod of Washington, MO and Dale Witt and wife, Melissa, Mary Cobb and husband, Kenny, Cherie Witt and Thomas Hayes and wife, Sondra, all of Richwoods and Burton Hayes and wife, Kristen, of Hillsboro, MO; by John’s daughters, Wanda Disano and husband, Charlie, of Warrenton, MO and Brenda Gloriod of St. Charles, MO; by two sisters-in-law, Ruth Love known to all as DeeDee, of St. Clair, MO, who was truly Geraldine’s best friend, and Bertha Schrum of Richwoods; by seven great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.

Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Evelyn Ramey; by her husband, Louis Hayes; by two sons-in-law, Louis Gloriod, known to all as Ted, and Leonard Witt, Jr. and by two infant grandchildren, twins Mitchell and Matthew Hayes.

Geraldine was a Christian of the Baptist faith, believing in the Lord as her Savior.  During most of her working years, she was employed in the shoe manufacturing industry, having worked at International Shoe Company and Deb Shoe Company both in St. Clair, MO and later at Carmo Shoe Company in Union, MO. She had also worked for a few years as a nurses’ assistant at Sullivan Life Care Center in Sullivan, MO and most recently as a salad bar attendant at the Flying J Truck Stop in Sullivan. She was a also a past member of the Order of Eastern Star, Potosi, MO Chapter. Caring for her home and family was always Geraldine’s first priority and she treasured the time spent with her children. In recent years, she enjoyed doing needlework and working word puzzles.  She was an avid reader and loved going out to eat with John. Listening to country gospel music was another of her pastimes. Each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were special to her and nothing made her happier than spending time with them.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Friday, November 11, 2016, at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO, with the Rev. Dick Hinson officiating. Interment was in Crestview Memorial Park, St. Clair, MO. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s’ Association or to the American Cancer Society.

Hilda Marie Koelling

hilda-pic-2Funeral Mass was celebrated for Hilda Koelling, 96, of Sullivan, MO, at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 7, 2016 at Holy Martyrs of Japan Catholic Church with burial to follow at Dutch Hill Cemetery, Sullivan, MO.

Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. Sunday evening, at the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, MO.

Hilda Marie was born on November 16, 1919 in Bourbon, MO to the late Joe and Emelia (Jost) Bindner. She taught at Three Mile School for three years. She then enjoyed working a Paramount Cap in Bourbon for four years. Hilda went to Paso, WA, and was united in marriage to Earl Koelling of Japan, MO, who was in the Navy, stationed there until October 1944. She worked in the W.A.C. dormitory at Richmond, WA for one year, then Earl was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1945. They came back to Missouri for a short time; Earl worked at the St. Louis Airport and Hilda at Emerson Electric.  They moved back to the Japan area where they both worked in the Japan Store. Hilda worked in the store until 1977 when she retired due to her health. Even after retirement, she retained her spunky attitude and energy, always having several projects that needed to be accomplished. Family and friends were her first priority. She loved company and everyone had to sample some of her cooking and special bakery desserts. Hilda and her circle of friends were always ready for a spirited pinochle game. The enjoyed many a game over the years. She had a strong faith and was a member of Holy Martyrs of Japan Catholic Church where she regularly attended and participated in church activities. Hilda’s lawn was always manicured and she enjoyed her flowers and gardening. She was fortunate to be able to live almost all her life at her home on Highway H and attend to all her own affairs.

Hilda passed away on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at Life Care Center in Sullivan.

She is survived by her son; Gary Koelling of Union, MO, and his special friend; Marilyn Beanblossom of Washington, MO, brother and sister in law; Norris and Lucille Koelling; nieces; Karen Sappington and Cheryl (Jean) Koelling;  nephews; Ronald and Robert (Bob) Bindner, other relatives and many friends.

Along with her parents, Hilda was preceded in death by her husband, Earl on November 2, 1997 and son, Steven Koelling on June 8, 2011, one brother and sister in law; Frank and Rose Bindner and one sister in infancy; Catherine Bindner.

Masses to Holy Martyrs Catholic Church or Memorials to Dutch Hill Cemetery are appreciated.

Richard Leroy Daugherty

Richard Leroy Daugherty, of Bourbon, MO, was born on Sunday, November 4, 1945 in Washington, MO, to Patrick Edward Daugherty and Elsie May Littrell Daugherty. He passed away on Friday, November 11, 2016 at the age of 71 years and 7 days.

Richard married Mary Ann Blaser on September 12, 1964 in Union, MO and to this union three children were born. Richard was self-employed and owned his own trucking business transporting mostly dry goods. His hobbies were hunting, riding motorcycles and car racing. He was an honest, dependable, husband, father and grandfather who loved his family very much. He led his wife to the Lord many years ago and most recently was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Bourbon, MO.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Mary Lou Daugherty.

He is survived by his wife Mary Ann Daugherty of Bourbon, MO; children Virginia (P.J.) Beckermann, Ronda (friend Jimmy Mitchell) Saunchgrow of Owensville, MO and James Leroy (Cyndi) Daugherty of Bourbon, MO; brothers Clifford (Pattie Atkins) Daugherty, Kenneth (Jackie) Daugherty, Carl (Sue) Daugherty and Gary Lee Daugherty all of Bourbon, MO, 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Services for Adabelle H. Baldwin, 89, of Bourbon, Missouri were at 10 a.m. Monday, November 14, 2016 at First United Methodist Church in Bourbon with Pastor Mary Avizenis officiating. Burial will follow in Bourbon Cemetery.

Visitation was from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, at First United Methodist Church in Bourbon, with American Legion and Eastern Star services.

Mrs. Baldwin is survived by her niece; Linda Mroz and husband Ed of Washington, MO, great-nephew; Jeremy Stephens of Washington, great great-niece; Brianna Stephens, and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Oscar and Elizabeth (McLeod) Holaday, her husband; Raymond Baldwin, and infant daughter; Jeannie Melita.

glennrichards-obitGlenn William Richards, of St. Clair, MO, formerly Sullivan, MO, was born in Sullivan on February 1, 1938, son of William Alma Richards and Dorothy Delores Richards nee Davis.  As a young man, he was united in marriage and blessed to have three children.  For the past twenty-five years, he has shared his life with Sandra Anne Peterson nee Sandage, known to most as Sandy.

Glenn is survived by his companion, Sandy Peterson of St. Clair; MO; by three children, Mark Richards and wife, Eloisa, of Kerrville, TX, Martin Richards and wife, Debbie, of New Braunfels, TX and Marileigh Richards and companion, Marvin Robertson, of Norfolk, VA; by Sandy’s children, Joe Peterson and wife, Tracye, of St. Clair and Jennifer Danz and husband, Bill, of Leslie, MO; by two grandchildren, Bobby Peterson and wife, Callee, and Brooke Winkler and husband, Shane, all of Union, MO; by one great-grandchild, Henry Winkler of Union; by nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousin and many friends.

Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, William and Dorothy Richards, and by one sister, Sandra Mackley.

Glenn was a Christian and long time member of the Parkway Church of the Nazarene in St. Clair, MO, where he enjoyed playing music each Sunday. Glenn was proud to have served his country in the United States Air Force, entering May 25, 1956 and receiving his honorable discharge on May 24, 1960. He was an electrician by trade and had been employed by Ameren Union Electric at the Labadie Power Plant from 1976 until he retired in 1993. Glenn was an outgoing man that was very civic minded.  He served as the Mayor of Oak Grove Village near Sullivan, MO for twenty-two years, from 1970 until 1992. He also owned and operated Westgate Music Store in Sullivan, MO, for twenty years.  Glenn’s passion was music for he was gifted in ability to play instruments, especially the saxophone. He was truly a world class musician. Glenn knew no stranger and he spared none of his friends from his keen sense of humor, which so many people admired. He was happiest when he was spending time with family and many wonderful memories have been created.

Visitation was held from 10 a.m. to 12 Noon on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO. Memorial services followed at 1 p.m. at Parkway Church of the Nazarene in St. Clair, with the Rev. Harold Lumley officiating.  Private committal will take place at a later date.  Memorials may be made to the Parkway Church of the Nazarene.

reta-m-boyle-picture-1Graveside services for Reta M. Boyle, age 79 of Sullivan, MO, were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday,  November 8,  2016 at St. Leo Cemetery, Modoc, IL, with Pastor Barbara Woods officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Leo Cemetery

Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, at the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, MO. The prayer service was led by Father Paul Telken at 7 p.m.

Reta Marie Palmer was born on May 8, 1937 to the late Theodore and Fannie (Longloy) Palmer in Modoc, IL. She was employed “underground” in the Coal mine in Randolph County where she met her husband, Red. She also worked various other jobs including; waitressing and in the Horticulture industry. On May 15, 1992, Reta was united in marriage to James “Red” Boyle in Eureka Spring, AR.

After retirement, Red and Reta became full time RVers, traveling the country in their motor home as “Snowbirds.” They also served as Camp Hosts in many State Parks in Missouri, Texas and Florida. They had many wonderful years together. Reta will be missed by her husband, Red and her large loving family.

Reta passed away on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at Meramec Nursing Center, Sullivan, MO.

She is survived by her husband; James “Red” Boyle of Sullivan, two sons; Tom Oakley and wife Tammy of Red Bud, IL, and George Boyle and wife Rita of Sullivan; four daughters: Tanya Schoenbeck and husband Roy of Bourbon, MO, Sandra Hinten and husband Ronald of New Haven, MO, Mary Harris and Duane Hidritch of Rosebud, MO, and Lisa Weiskopf and husband Corey of Sullivan, MO; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Tina Heinemann and husband Melvin of Evansville, IL, and Mary Bielefeld and husband Bob of Prairie Du Rocher, IL; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Reta was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Fannie (Longloy) Palmer and one grandchild, Jason Harris.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Sharon LaVelle Van Deren passed away on Sunday, November 6, 2016 in  Columbia, MO.  Sharon was born in St. Louis, MO on May 25, 1947. She moved to Stanton with her family in 1952 and graduated from Sullivan High School in 1965.

She is survived by her mother Edna Van Deren;  sisters Sandy Bledsoe  (Jerry) and Sheila Lynch (Jim); brother Ron Van Deren (LaDell); nieces Jill Wisniewski (Mark), Jennifer Roscher (Chase) and Melinda Wong (Herman); nephew Cody Lynch (Rena); seven great nieces and nephews.  

Preceded in death by her father Fred Van Deren; grandparents Paul and  Ruth Van Deren, Frank and Grace Brown all from Stanton, MO.

Per her wishes, there will be no services.

Visitation was from 2-3 p.m, Friday at Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan.

Braxton Jacob Cannon was born March 28, 2016, the precious son of Jacob Cannon and Darline Pehle.  His life was difficult early on with some pressing health issues, but he never gave up and fought courageously no matter what challenges he faced. Braxton’s fighting spirit was inspiring to those around him who cared for him. He was a bright light that shined to his family the past several months.

On Tuesday, November 1, 2016, Braxton grew weary and went to be in the arms of Jesus.

His short life impacted so many around him and his memory will live on.

Braxton is survived by his parents, Jacob and Darline of Cuba, MO; grandparents, Becky Vaughn and Melvin Rimel of Sullivan and David Cannon of Cuba; great-grandparents: Thomas and Nannette Rowden of Sullivan and Ernie and Robin Hartung of Bourbon; uncles, Jordon Cannon of Cuba and Dominick Pehle of Pickett, AR; aunts: Shanadoah Keckler and Angel Garris both of Bourbon; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Eldon Abraham Barton

Eldon Abraham Barton, of Cherryville, MO, passed away Thursday, November 10, 2016 in Fenton, MO at the age of 85 years and 28 days. He was born October 13, 1931 in Buick, MO to Henry Monroe Barton and Vada Emmeline Johnson Barton.

On the 22nd of June of 1948, he was united in marriage to Bonnie Harris and to this union four children were born. He later married Claudette Smith Barton on June 18, 1995 in Viburnum, MO.

Eldon was a faithful member of the Rivers of Life Church. He always loved music whether singing or playing his guitar. For many years, he had a gospel radio show on KGNN out of Washington, MO station. He was always very giving and was willing to play music for funerals and benefits for families in the area. Eldon loved his family and enjoyed the times he could be with them.

He will be sadly missed by his wife of twenty-one years, Claudette Barton of Cherryville, MO; two sons, Perry Barton and wife Rhonda of Cherryville, MO and David Barton and wife Julana of Springfield, MO; two daughters, Glenda Green and husband Joe of Davisville, MO and Jeanne Duemler and husband Bob of Sullivan, MO; three step-sons, Kenny Barton and wife Kathleen of O’Fallon, MO, Dennis Barton and wife Cindy of Boss, MO and Tommy Barton and wife Kelly of Lesterville, MO; ten grandchildren, Brad Green, Stanley Green and wife Clarissa, Chad Barton and wife Becky, Sarah Henry, Daniel Barton and wife Kandis, Gabriel Barton, Colin Barton and wife Danielle, Chanda Prater and husband Dean, Bryan Smith and wife Amanda, and James Duemler and friend Whitney Watring; fifteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; four step-grandchildren, Andrew Barton, Natalie Barton, Ethan Barton and Macie Barton; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Dwight Barton.

The Family received friends from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday, November 13, 2016 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, MO.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 14, 2016 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, MO with Rev. Henry Copling and Rev. John Brice officiating. Special music of “Can’t Even Walk” was sung by David and Perry Barton and Bob and Carol Coleman. Other music of “See You in the Rapture” was sung and played on piano by Johnny Setzer and “Meet You on the other side of Jordan” sung by Bob and Carol Coleman.

Committal prayer and interment were in the Smith Cemetery at Oates, MO.

Honored to be casket bearers were Colin Barton, Bradley Green, Bryan Smith, Chad Barton, Stanley Green, Daniel Barton and Gabriel Barton with Ethan Barton and Andrew Barton as Honorary.

The Family was served by the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home of Steelville, MO.

whalen-colorGraveside Services for Guy Patrick Whalen, age 91, of Sullivan, MO, were conducted at 3 p.m. on Friday, November 18, 2016 Steelville Cemetery, Steelville, MO.

Visitation was from 12 to 2 p.m. Friday, at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, MO.

Guy Patrick known as “Pat” was born on April 23, 1925 at Steelville, MO, to Guy F. and Addie M. (Halbert) Whalen. He grew up and attended school in Steelville. He honorably served his country during World War II in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946. On March 13, 1946 Pat was united in marriage to Norma Farrar in Pocahontas, Arkansas and five children were born to their union. After a short time in Steelville and Rolla the Whalen family moved to Sullivan where Pat opened a Sears Catalog Store. He operated the store until his retirement in the early 80ies. In his retirement he enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandkids.

Mr. Whalen passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2016 at Mercy Hospital in Washington, MO.

Mr. Whalen is survived by his wife; Norma Whalen of Sullivan, five children; Patrick Lynn Whalen and wife Bonnie of Leawood, Kansas, Mike Whalen and wife Marsha of Arkadephia, AR, Judy Copeland and husband Larry of Raymore, MO, Jerry Whalen and wife Vivian of Sullivan, Dawn Millheiser and husband Danny of Imperial, MO, 12 grandchildren; one brother; Harry Whalen and wife Hilda of Bella Vista, AR, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Mr. Whalen was preceded in death by his parents; Guy F. and Addie M. (Halbert) Whalen and two sisters; Henrietta and Erma Whalen. 

Memorials to MRT at Temple Baptist Church are appreciated.
