Patricia Ann Finazzo

Pat FinazzoPatricia Ann Finazzo, passed away on Monday, February 15, 2016, at the age of 53 years. Pat was born in St. Louis on March 8, 1962 to Gloria and the late Sonny Rolands. She married her beloved husband, Jon Finazzo on November 21, 1985 and they moved to Sullivan area in 1998.

Dearest mother of Ryan; sister of Tammy (Ted) Biermann, Ron (Gail)  Roland and the late, Michael; daughter-in-law of Joyce and the late Jim Finazzo; sister-in-law of Janniece; dear niece, aunt, cousin and friend.

Service was held on Friday, February 19, 2016 from 4-8 p.m. and the funeral was held on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at noon at Kutis South County Chapel, 5255 Lemay Ferry Road. Interment at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery.


Charles H. Reynolds

Charles Reynolds 5 colorCharles H. Reynolds, of Troy, MO, passed away Saturday, February 27, 2016 at the age of 84 years.

Charles Hulon was born in Martin, TN to the late Jesse and Mattie (Holland) Reynolds. He was raised there for a time and later, moved to Sullivan, MO. Charles attended Sullivan High School but left his studies to enlist in the United States Army. He honorably served his country in the Korean War attaining the rank of Corporal. While in the service, Mr. Reynolds earned his GED. Charles was united in marriage to Nancy Schmitt. He was employed several years with RCA and later by General Electric as a service technician. He retired from GE in 1990. Charles enjoyed cars and fishing the Great Lakes. He delighted in knife and gun collecting and the martial arts.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Reynolds of Viburnum, MO; a daughter, Angela Reynolds of Troy, MO; a son, Joseph Christopher Reynolds of Cape Girardeau, MO; one sister, Mary Poole of Sullivan, MO; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Along with his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his son, Charles Phillip Reynolds and one brother, Bob Reynolds.

Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, March 3, 2016 from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, MO with Mr. Albert McGhee officiating. Interment was in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Sullivan, MO. 

All arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, MO.

Lois June Mueller

Lois MuellerLois J. Mueller, 85, of Sullivan, MO, passed away Saturday, February 27, 2016 at Meramec Nursing Center in Sullivan, MO. She was born in Old Monroe, MO June 4, 1930 to Anthony A. Yamnitz and Mary E. (Hartle) Yamnitz. She was raised in Perryville, MO. She was married to Norman Mueller from 1951 to 1991.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 brothers, Denver Yamnitz, Donald Yamnitz, Delmar Yamnitz; 3 sisters, Grace Yamnitz, Hazel Short, Faye Slattery; and her first born son, Norman Eugene.

Survivors include children, Larry (Myra) Mueller of Branson, MO; Cynthia (Walt) Wyatt of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Pamala (Kenneth) Zahner of Perryville, MO; Timothy (Tina) Mueller of Perryville MO; and Rebecca (Nathan) Webb of Sullivan, MO. She has 8 grandchildren: Ryan,  Megan,  Joshua,  Stefani, Courtney, Nathan, Ericha, and Gavin; and 9 great-grandchildren: Trista, Bradyn, Aiden, Graeme, Landon, Merrick, Rhyse, Torin, and Josie.

June has many nieces and nephews that were special and dear to her heart, always wanting to know what was going on in their lives. She had one special nephew, Lee Short, of California, that she grew up with and was raised with her like a brother. 

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Perryville, MO and a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Sullivan, MO, after she moved to Sullivan in 1983.

She owned and operated June’s Ceramics in Perryville, MO, for 12 years. In Sullivan, MO, she worked as a sales clerk in Rexall Drugs Pharmacy and Walmart Pharmacy, was a member of the VFW, the TOPS organization for 20 years and a volunteer with the Missouri Baptist Hospital Ladies Auxillary.

June enjoyed countless crafts, mostly known for crotchet blankets that she made for every family member and donated to many local events.  Through the years, she loved gardening, bowling, playing cards and BINGO with her friends. She loved sunbathing by the pool and enjoyed social gatherings with friends and family. June cherished time with so many people that she always seemed to know someone wherever she would go.

Visitation and services was at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Sullivan, MO, on Friday, March, 4, 2016. Visitation was from 10 a.m.-12 p.m.  with funeral service following at 12 p.m. Graveside service and burial  was on Saturday, March 5, 2016, in Yount Community Cemetery in Perry County, MO, at 1 p.m.

Armista Joan Morris

Armista Joan Morris, of Sullivan, MO, passed away Saturday, February 27, 2016 at the age of 83 years, three months and 16 days.

Joan, as she was known by her family and friends, was born and raised in Desloge, MO on November 11, 1932 to the late Charles Oscar and Essie Elizabeth (Newcomb) Reed,  and came to Sullivan in 1959. On August 31, 1955, she was united in marriage to James Wilson Morris and to this marriage two children were born. From 1960 to 1968, she was employed as a nurse’s aide in the office of Dr. John de la Torre. Joan later student taught in the Francis Howell School District and soon after taught school at Sullivan Junior High. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts from UMR and later attended Webster University, working toward her Master’s Degree. Joan enjoyed literature and reading, gardening and cooking. She was especially fond of meeting with her friends over coffee. Joan was a member of the Episcopal Church of St. John and St. James of Sullivan. 

She is survived by a son, Tim Morris of Washington, MO; a daughter, Sally Mullally and husband, Kevin of Cuba, MO; six grandchildren, Sean, Colin, and Kevin C. Mullally, Austin, Paige and Payton Morris; one great-granddaughter, Kendall Mullally; other relatives and friends.

Along with her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her husband, James Morris.

Funeral services were conducted at 12 noon, Thursday, March 3, 2016 from the Episcopal Church of St. John and St. James in Sullivan with interment in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Sullivan, MO.

Callie Ann Reid

callie reid obitCallie Ann Reid, age 43, passed away unexpectedly and peacefully at home on March 4, 2016.

She was born in St. Louis, MO on April 18, 1972 to Shirley and Donald Reid and preceded in death by her loving mother. Callie is survived and mourned by her father, Donald Reid, loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, step sister Jill, step brother Danny, special companion Joey, special dog Shelby, and many dear friends.

Callie loved life and was strong in spirit and action. She encountered numerous challenges but strived to overcome each and every one. As a friend, she was loyal; as a cousin and step sister, she offered help when needed; and as a daughter, she expressed love and compassion as she took care of her mother during a long illness, and she will always be her father’s No. 1 daughter.

Callie Ann’s untimely death leaves a void in far too many lives. She touched everyone in a special way and will always be treasured.

Barbara Nell Danis

Barbara Nell Danis of St. Clair, MO, formerly of St. Louis passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at the age of 89 years.

Barbara was born February 13, 1927 to Edna Jones and Earl Murphy at Joplin, MO. Her parents divorced when she was very young which caused her to have two residences and lived in both Oklahoma and Missouri.  When her father was injured in an accident, Barbara had to fend for herself as a young teen and went to work as a waitress; a vocation which she held for the majority of her life.  She was later married to Robert (Bob) Adams and to this marriage three children were born. They made their home in the St. Louis area and were married for 14 years before the marriage ended in divorce. Her most remembered jobs were in the food services area of Lambert Airport. She met several entertainers while working there and made many friends.  Barbara later came to work for Pope’s cafeteria where she met her future husband William (Bill) Danis. Bill was employed at the Continental Can Company and Barbara later became employed in the company cafeteria. They later married on New Year’s Eve in 1966. They enjoyed going out and were fond of gambling, horse racing and traveling.  Bill fell on hard times through an addiction with alcohol but decided to turn his life around and with Barbara’s help and support made this time in their lives stronger and helped them to have a better future. In Barbara’s retirement years, she and Bill started attending church.  Barbara worked in a Day Care that was operated by the church. She also later served samples at SAM’S Club. She and Bill often traveled to Branson, Missouri and loved listening to the country music. After Bill’s death in 2009, Barbara moved to Sullivan to live closer to her son and daughter.  This move helped her to reconnect with her children and took many trips together by train to Kansas City to visit her older daughter.  Barbara was known to say, “I have had a good long life and have been very blessed.”  Barbara was a member of the First Baptist Church of Stanton.

She is survived by three children; Edna Bradley and husband Tom of Kansas City, MO; Les Adams and wife Gina of Sullivan, MO and Joyce Montgomery and husband Terry of Sullivan; eight grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted 7:p.m., Saturday, March 12, 2016 from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Mr. James Eaton officiating. Interment was held on Monday, March 14, 2016 at 11 a.m. in Friedens Cemetery, St. Louis, MO. Visitation for Mrs. Barbara Danis was held from 3:30 p.m. until time of service at 7 p.m., Saturday evening at the Eaton Funeral Home (Clark Street location) in Sullivan. The family desires memorials be made to the National MS Society in honor of Barbara’s granddaughter, Sarah Burch.

Alice Geraldine Mullen

Geraldine Mullen obit colorAlice Geraldine Mullen of Sullivan, Missouri, passed away at her home on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at the age of 91 years, two months and five days.

Sister Gerry, as she was known by her family and friends, was born on December 30, 1924 at Bourbon, Missouri to the late Royal and Dorthea May (Kruse) Cartwright. On November 19, 1952 she was united in marriage to Pastor Oliver Mullen and to this marriage two children were born. Sister Gerry was known to all as a singer, piano player, seamstress, gardener, canner, cook, Sunday school teacher crafter, birdhouse builder, wife, mother and grandma. But most importantly, she was a soul winner for Jesus.

She is survived by her husband Pastor Oliver Mullen of the family home; two children, David Mullen and wife Jeannie of Sullivan, and Alice Hewkin and husband Mark of Sullivan; one sister, Emma Murphy and husband Dale of Bourbon, Missouri; 4 grandchildren, Jennifer Moreland and husband Joe, Mark Hewkin II, Matthew and Marissa Hewkin; 2 great-grandchildren, Lexie and Aiden Moreland; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Along with her parents, Sister Gerry was preceded in death by four brothers, Henry, James, Walter and Paul Cartwright; and two sisters, her twin sister Pauline Ramstein and a sister in infancy Dorthea Mae Cartwright.

Funeral services were conducted 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 12, 2016 from New Testament Baptist Church in Sullivan with Pastor Charlie Idelman officiating. Interment was in Lea Cemetery, Leasburg, Missouri. Visitation was held from 9:30 until time of service at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Heartland Hospice Memorial Fund, New Testament Baptist Church or the Humane Society. John Lopez Castilleja obit colorJohn Lopez Castilleja, Jr. of St. Louis, MO, passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at the age of 37 years, 11 months and 2 days.

John was born in St. Louis, MO, on March 29, 1978 to Brenda Kay (Prewitt) Castilleja and the late John Lopez Castilleja, Sr. He had lived in the St. Louis area until the age of 9 when the family moved to the Bourbon, MO area. John lived off and on in both the Bourbon and St. Louis area for 20 years and then the past 15 years lived in St. Louis. John was an electronics specialist and fabricator and was employed at Auto Erotica and was recognized as a leader in his field of expertise. John was also a member of many Industrial Organizations relating to his technical field through social media. He enjoyed making people laugh and had a wonderful smile. He delighted in being a prankster and was loved dearly by his family and all who knew him. Living in a close-knit family, he enjoyed all of his family ties and was a true people person and didn’t know a stranger. John loved music and was also an accomplished photographer.

He is survived by children; Destiny Marie, Morgan Nicole, Cierra Kay and Skylar Agnes Castilleja and Kendyl Chanelle Baker, his Mommas, Brenda Prewitt-Lago and Gleid Nara Lago; his soul mate and partner, Rhonda Casey of St. Louis, two brothers, Timothy Castilleja and wife Beth, and Jeremy Castilleja; nieces, nephew, other relatives and friends. John was preceded in death by his father John Lopez Castilleja, Sr. on August 15, 1977 and his grandmother, Maxine M. (Hall) Black.

Funeral services were conducted 11 a.m. Monday, March 7, 2016 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with cremation to follow. Visitation for John Castilleja was held from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday, at the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, MO.


Ben A. Dunakey

Ben A. Dunakey obit colorBen A. Dunakey, of Bourbon, MO, passed away February 29, 2016 at the age of 60 years.

Ben was born on April 16, 1955 in Anchorage, AK to Ben B. and Dorothy E. (Hobbs) Dunakey. His family being in the military; Ben lived in various places around the country. However, the majority of his life was lived in the Sullivan area and he later graduated Sullivan High School with the Class of 1974. Ben later attended college in Neosho, MO, taking classes in water quality and wastewater management. Eventually, he became employed with the City of Tulsa, OK, in their water management department. Ben was known as a knowledgeable individual and was always truthful in his dealing with family and friends. As his children were growing up, he helped manage and coach their baseball teams and also participated in the children’s basketball and soccer teams. Ben was very proud that he helped set-up and build a couple of “Sober Houses” in the Tulsa area while he himself was battling a past dependence problem.

He is survived by one daughter, Ashley “Rae” Dunakey of Bourbon, MO; one son Matthew Dunakey of Tulsa, OK; two sisters, Ruth Anna Cowan and husband Jim of Ellisville, MO and Midge Cummings of Valley, Park, MO; two grandchildren, Caleb Higgins and Chloe Dunakey; other relatives and friends. Ben was also preceded in death by his parents and a brother David Dunakey.

Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 8, 2016 from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, MO with Mr. Ralph Green officiating. Cremation followed the service. Visitation was held from 12:30 until time of service at 2 p.m. at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.

Steven J. Valley

Obit pic edited colorSteven J. Valley, age 33, of Belle, passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2016, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Steven was born on December 4, 1982, in Rolla, a son to James C. and Aileen Hazel (Skaggs) Valley. They both survive in Belle.

Steven attended the Belle School system and later earned his GED.

On October 7, 2006, Steven was united in marriage to the love of his life, Jessica Lynette (Bryant) Valley. She survives at their home near Belle.

Steven was employed as a laborer for Local Union #662. 

Steven enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, camping and was a master chef when it came to BBQing. Some of his greatest memories was taking his children along with him when he went hunting or fishing. Steve was always there to help people if they needed it. He was a very generous person with a heart of gold. Steven was not afraid to do anything or to help anyone and was always there for his parents. He will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents and spouse of nine years, Steven is survived by: his  four children, Dakota Lee Valley, Jessalynn Hazel Dean Valley, Stevie Marie Valley and Dane James Valley, all of the home; two sisters, Shirley Michelle Crider and her husband Kevin of Maywood and Salina Sharp and her husband Andy of Sullivan; paternal grandmother, Geraldine Valley of Vichy; brother-in-law, Michael Bryant of Buckhorn; sister-in-law, Amanda Valley and her husband Nathan of Belle; mother-in-law, Pamela Bryant; father-in-law, Anthony Bryant; several nieces and nephews, one great niece and one great nephew, along with many extended family and friends.

Steven was preceded in death, by an infant daughter, Manda Michelle Valley, paternal grandfather, Lawrence Valley, and maternal grandparents, Charles and Ruby Skaggs along with several aunts and uncles.

Visitation was held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 19, 2016, at Sassmann’s Chapel in Belle. Funeral Services will follow at 1 p.m. with Brother Bill Perkins officiating. Interment will be in the Liberty Cemetery near Belle.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the family of Steven J. Valley.

Donald E. Delcour

Donald Delcour obit colorDonald E. Delcour, of Sullivan, MO, passed away Sunday, March 6, 2016 in Granite City, IL, at the age of 77 years.

Don as he was known was born on November 18, 1938 to the late Asa and Beulah Brown Delcour in Sullivan, MO. He was employed by the former Meramec Mining Company until its closing and then by the Capitol Quarry on Highway FF in Sullivan. Don was a true cowboy who enjoyed farming the family land, riding horses, hunting and traveling out west. He was a lifetime member of the NRA, a member of Sullivan Saddle Club and American Quarter Horse Association. He loved John Wayne.

He is survived by five siblings, Darlene Sebesak of Granite City, IL, Nedra Diehl and husband Stash of Fenton, MO, Janet Kromray of Granite City, IL, Stanley Delcour and wife Sandy of Belleville, IL, Donna Hunter and husband Gary of Bourbon, MO, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Along with his parents, Don was preceded in death by two brothers in infancy, and two brothers-in-law, Joe Sabesak and Stanley Kromray.

A memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m.  Saturday, April 2, 2016 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, MO with Mr. Jerry Brown officiating.

Mary Ann Wiedeman

Mary Ann Wiedeman nee Farrar, of Sullivan, MO, was born on Wednesday, September 15, 1926 in Steelville, MO to Albert Farrar and Lena Brown Farrar. She passed away in Washington, MO on Friday, March 18, 2016 at the age of 89 years, 6 months, and 3 days.

Mary Ann graduated from Steelville High School and married John Frederick Wiedeman and to this union one son was born. They lived in St. Louis for a short time then moved to Florida for 15 years. Later located in Sullivan, MO after retirement. Mary Ann was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Post 3897 of Sullivan, MO. She enjoyed fishing, hunting and quilting.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; infant brother, Claudy Farrar; brothers, Troy Farrar, Bert Farrar, Carroll (Vern) Farrar, Raymond (Estella) Farrar, Jim, Harry and Clark Farrar; sisters, Mabel (Claude) Davis, Phoebe (Calvin) Cutsforth, Myrtle (Charles) Durand, and Thelma (John) Vick.

She is survived by her son, Michael (Evelyn) Wiedeman of Sullivan, MO; grandchildren, John Wiedeman and friend Christina Lawrence of Rogers, AR; Rose Mary Wiedeman and fiance Steven Vollmar and Eva Wiedeman all of Sullivan; sister, Zelma Farrar of Coos Bay, WA; sister-in-law, Virginia Farris of Steelville, MO; nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation was Wednesday, March 23, 2016 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and Funeral Service at 1 p.m. at Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba, MO with Pastor Tina Lawrence officiating. Burial at Brown Cemetery, Steelville, MO. Memorials were suggested to any VFW, American Legion, or American Heart Association and/or HALO of Sullivan, MO.

Baby Bennet Kitchen

Kitchen obit colorBaby Bennet Kitchen passed away at his home in Sullivan at the age of 16 months.

Baby Bennet was born November 24, 2014 to Mark Allen and Billie Jean (Stroup) Kitchen, Jr. He had his own little personality and would know his parents and caregiver upon entering his room. He really enjoyed his rub downs with coconut oil. Baby Bennet particularly enjoyed cuddling, standing in his jumper and his puppy “Marshall”.

He is survived by his parents, Mark and Billie Jean Kitchen of Sullivan; a brother, Braden Kitchen of the family home; grandparents, Crystal Pyatt and husband Roger of Bourbon, MO, James Stroup and wife Lisa of Steelville, MO, Mark and Tiffany Kitchen of Leasburg, MO; great-grandparents, Ron and Jane McClary of Bourbon, Susie Edge of Bourbon, Floyd and Wilma Kitchen of Leasburg, James and Gloria Stroup of Bourbon, Joyce Goodman of Bourbon and Leo Pyatt of Sullivan; and his caregiver, Marietta Lewis of Bourbon who was like a grandmother to him.

Memorial Funeral Services were held at 7:30 p.m., Thursday evening, March 31, 2016 from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan. Visitation was held from 5 p.m. until time of service at 7:30 p.m. at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan. If desired, contributions may be made to the Kitchen family.

Mary Jean Cuneio

Mary Jean Cuneio obit colorMary Jean Cuneio, of Sullivan, MO, passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at the age of 85 years.

Jean, as she was known, was born on January 25, 1931 at Cuba, MO to the late Elmer L. and Mamie E. (West) Osborn.

On August 20, 1949, Jean was united in marriage to Floyd M. Cuneio and they were blessed with four children, Jerry, Larry and twins, Dean and Dianne. Mrs. Cuneio was employed at the former Schulte Bakery in Fairway Shopping Center for 13 years and Paramount Metalizing for 13 years. She was a devoted wife and mother who cared for her ailing husband for many years. Jean was also a very good seamstress and, for many years, made pillows for the hospital’s surgery patients. She accepted the Lord as her Savior and was faithful member of First Assembly of God for over 65 years. She taught the Ladies Bible Class for Sunday school for many years and cooked her special sweet potatoes for most all the church funeral dinners. A wonderful wife, mother, grandma, sister and aunt, Jean will be lovely remembered by her family and church family.

She is survived by three children; Larry Cuneio and wife Kay of Sullivan, MO, Dean Cuneio and wife Linda of Sullivan, MO, Dianne Ruble and husband Rev. Randy Ruble of Potosi, MO, daughter in law; Mary Cuneio of Desloge, MO, 9 grandchildren; Michael Cuneio, Daniel Cuneio and wife Andrea, Amber Nichols and husband, Chuck, Dana Tutterrow and husband, Stacy, Doug Cuneio and wife, Amy, D.J. Cuneio and wife Lydia, Ryan Cuneio, Zach Ruble and wife Heather, Pastor Derik Ruble and wife Sarah, 8 great-grandchildren, Jordan Cuneio, Aven and Olivia Nichols, Ian, Sydney and Adam Tutterrow, Zoe and Mia Cuneio,  one brother; John Osborn and wife, Delilah of Cuba, MO, one sister; Erma Schmidt of Rocky Mount, MO, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Along with her parents; Elmer and Mamie Osborn, Jean was preceded in death by her husband; Floyd Cuneio, one son; Rev. Jerry Cuneio, a granddaughter; Shelby Tutterrow,  one sister and brother in law; Elva and Roscoe Tyree, brother in law; Don Schmidt.

Funeral services were conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at First Assembly of God in Sullivan, MO with Pastor Derik Ruble and Pastor Kyle Phillips officiating. Interment was in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Sullivan, MO. Visitation for Jean Cuneio was from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, at First Assembly of God in Sullivan, MO. Memorials to the Gideon’s are appreciated.

Jerry Marks obit colorJerry Marks, of Washington, MO, formerly of Sullivan, passed away Sunday, March 27, 2016 at the age of 71 years, 10 months and 19 days.

Jerry was born in Sullivan, MO, on May 8, 1944 to Walter and Noreen (Gallinger) Marks. He was a graduate of Sullivan High School and later attended and graduated from Peru State College with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Education. He taught for a time in Mexico, MO and later went into business with Jim Hillman at Triple H Sporting Goods in Sullivan. Jerry eventually moved to Washington, MO where he was employed as a dealer in car sales. In 1963, he was united in marriage to Janice Williamson and to this marriage two children were born. Jerry was a charter member of Sullivan Order of Eagles Aerie #3781 and member of Sullivan Lodge No. 69 AF & AM. Jerry was also, at one time, an active member of Ducks Unlimited. In his younger days, Jerry played town league baseball and he later was certified as a referee for MO High School Athletics and officiated for over 40 years at football and basketball games. In his retirement, Jerry became interested in buying and selling antiques and drove a bus for the Washington School System. Jerry always enjoyed a joke and was the center of any activity and was loved by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife Janice of the family home; one son, Jeremy Marks and wife Jill of Union, MO; one daughter, Jill Heggemann and husband Kenneth of Dutzow, MO; Atanas Atanasova and wife Leslie of Bethesda, MD, whom he loved as his own son; one sister, Judy Kramer and husband Gale of Sullivan, MO; sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Donny Carey of Sullivan; eight grandchildren, Allie, Kaylee and Wil Heggemann, Laney and Cole Marks, Lessie, Marie Grace and Nikko Atanasova; special friends, Jackie and Gary Pinkston, Chep Hurth III, Bruce Buschman and Christine Davis; nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.

Along with his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his brother, Walter “Junior” Marks.

Memorial services were held through the auspices of Sullivan Order of Eagles at 7 p.m., Friday evening, April 1, 2016 from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan. Funeral services followed with Mr. Jim Eaton officiating. Visitation was held from 3:30 p.m. until time of service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Those who desire may make memorial contributions to Saint Francis Borgia Athletic Association.

Junior A. Gillam

Junior A. Gillam, of Sullivan, MO, passed away Friday, March 25, 2016 at the age of 67 years.

Junior was born on March 26, 1948 to the late Ralph G. Gillam and Eula Elizabeth Conaway Gillam at Cherryville, MO. He honorably served his country in the United States Army attaining the rank of Sargent. Junior was united in marriage to Carol Adams on November 28, 1965 at Temple Baptist Church in Sullivan and they recently celebrated their 50th anniversary. Junior was employed as a car hauler for Cassens for over 30 years and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Arie 3781 of Sullivan. Junior enjoyed spending time with his family, automotive, woodworking, fishing and camping.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Gillam of Sullivan, MO, two daughters, Tamara Patterson and husband Dave of Rolla, MO, Heather Gillam of Sullivan, MO; one grandson, Daniel Jacob West, Jr. of Pevely, MO; his mother, Eula Ogle of Sullivan; sister in law, Joan Gillam of Sullivan; niece, Cheri Riddle and husband Mike; nephew, Preston Gillam; great nieces, and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Along with his father, Ralph Gillam, Junior was preceded in death by his brother, Glendon (Sonny) Gillam.

Funeral services were conducted 12 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2016 with Pastor Craig Tanner officiating. Interment was in I.O.O.F. Memorial Cemetery, Sullivan, MO. Eagle services were conducted at 7 p.m. Monday evening at Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, MO.

Mary Edna Koehn2 obit colorMary Edna Koehn, of Sullivan, MO, passed away at her home on Friday, March 25, 2016 at the age of 94 years, one month and 29 days.

Mary Edna was born at Granite City, IL on January 26, 1922 to Elasco and Mabel (Halbert) Lockhart. The family later moved to the Leasburg area and soon after, Mary Edna attended and graduated from Sullivan High School. 

On September 7, 1940, she was united in marriage to Kurt Koehn, Jr. in Cuba, MO, and to this union two children were born. She stood by her husband’s side always and in any circumstance. It can be said that she was a true old-fashioned homemaker. Family reunions were always a special time and she truly loved her grandchildren and really found pleasure in her great-grandchildren. Mary Edna had a quiet disposition and a pleasant demeanor, loved a good joke and was loved by all who knew her. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church of Sullivan where she was involved in W.O.M. and the BALL Club.

She is survived by a son Roger Koehn and wife Maria of Sullivan; one daughter, Roberta Charboneau of Gerald, MO; sister-in-law, Rovene Lockhart of Leasburg, MO; 7 grandchildren, Robbin Buttrey of Washington, MO, Shelly Skouby and husband Gary of Gerald, MO, Erick Charboneau of Casa Grande, AZ, Shawn Charboneau and wife Jessica of Owensville, MO, Justin Charboneau and wife Diana of Crestwood, MO, Anna Wilhelm of Rome, NY, and Rose Brown of Belleville, IL; 15 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Along with her parents, Mary Edna was preceded in death by her husband Kurt, a son-in-law, Calvin Charboneau; a great-grandson, Luke Calvin Charboneau and a brother Robert Lockhart.

Funeral services were conducted 11 a.m., Saturday, April 2, 2016 from Temple Baptist Church in Sullivan with Pastor Scott Perry officiating. Interment was in Lea Cemetery, Leasburg, MO. Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m., Friday evening at Temple Baptist Church and on Saturday from 9 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. at the church. Those who desire may make memorial contributions to BJC Hospice of Sullivan. F

Vito leaves behind his grieving parents Martin and Brittany Garcia of Bourbon, MO; grandparents Britt and  Kristine Julius of Bourbon, MO, and Charles and Renee Thouvenel of Sullivan, MO; great-grandparents, JoAnn Hall of St. Louis, MO, and Margaret and Michael White of Sullivan, MO; great-great grandmother, Violet Hall of Union, MO; brothers and sisters, Vince Garcia, Violet Garcia and Vivianne Garcia all of Bourbon, MO; uncles and aunts, Joshua Julius, Abigail Julius, and Alicia Julius all of Bourbon, MO, Matt (Mary) Julius of Leasburg, MO, Vanessa Thouvenel and Yuma Thouvenel both of Sullivan, MO.

He was preceded in death by his great-grandfather Kenneth Hall.

There was a private family graveside service at Bourbon Cemetery, Bourbon, MO on Tuesday,  March 29, 2016 with grandfather Michael White officiating.

Dow Leonard Whitaker, of Sullivan, MO, departed this life in Sullivan, having reached the age of eighty-seven years, five months and twenty-five days.

Leonard was born in Nemaha, NE, son of Dow Oswald Whitaker and Bertha Whitaker nee McCullough.

On June 10, 1950, he was united in marriage to Helen Charlene Dennis and four children came to bless this union.

Leonard is survived by his wife, Helen Whitaker of Sullivan, MO; by three children, Linda Stailey and husband, Jack, of Denver, CO, Dawn Plant and husband, David, of Sullivan and Scott Whitaker of Seattle, WA; by one brother, Dwaine Whitaker of Salem, MO; by three sisters, Viola Jenkins of Bend, OR, Virginia Burton of Douglas, CA and Verna Garvey of Oak Grove, MO; by twelve grandchildren, Jessica Farris and husband, Jared, Wendy McHendry and husband, Clint, Gina Gargus and husband, Shaun, Andrea Hoskins and husband, Kevin, Stacy Schwager and husband, Daniel, Alison Sulley and husband, Brian, Karri Wilson, Greg Wilson, Jon Pratt, Matthew Stailey, Amanda Darnaby and husband, Michael, and Jenna Ross and husband, Thomas; by seven great-grandchildren, Kelsey and Austin Farris, Isaac and Tessa Gargus, Tiana Pratt and Hunter and Cooper Ross; by brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, Dow O. and Bertha Whitaker; by his daughter, Sharon Wilson; by his son-in-law, Robert Wilson and by five brothers and three sisters.

Leonard was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on July 16, 1964.  He most recently attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Sullivan, MO, where he was very active in the congregation and in the ministry for many years. During his working years, he was employed as a cement finisher. Leonard was an active, outgoing man with many hobbies and interests. He enjoyed sports, especially football. Gardening and working in his yard were favorite hobbies. He was a hard worker and always kept busy but he was never too busy to have time to lend a  helping hand to others. He had a keen sense of humor and liked to tell jokes and stories, making others laugh. Leonard was truly a family man and he was happiest when he was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2016, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Sullivan, MO.

Sandra Janish obit colorSandra L. Janish, of Sullivan, MO, passed away Saturday, March 26, 2016 at the age of 76 years.

Sandy, as she was known, was born on July 7, 1939 to the late Ira and Florence Fry Janish in St. Louis, MO. She was united in marriage to John Edward Janish, Sr. on June 30, 1956 and three children were born to their marriage. Sandy and Ed moved to Japan 50 years ago and became members of Old Argo Presbyterian Church.

At the farm they loved, she found a love for teaching the area youth about horsemanship and later became a 4-H Horsemanship leader. She enjoyed raising farm animals and her horses. Anyone who knew Sandy knew her love for flowers, plants, and playing in the dirt. She opened her own greenhouse named, The Japan Greenhouse and Nursery. Sandy was a long time member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary 3781, where she volunteered and enjoyed helping with charity work and canned food drives. Sandy enjoyed the outdoors, playing Bingo, and loved spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her children; John Janish and wife, Kathy of Sullivan, Matt Janish of Sullivan, Tracy Janish of Sullivan, 8 grandchildren; Justin Janish and wife Chrissy, Kyle Janish and wife Karen, Dusty Janish and fiancée, Brad Thurman, Kody Janish, Bode Janish, Brittany Hill and husband Ryan, Mitchell Wideman and Melissa Bain and husband Dereck, 6 great-grandchildren; Andrew Toms, Alexis McCulloch, Kylee and Caleb Janish, Paisley Hill and Jackson Bain, one sister; Shirley Thompson of St. Louis, MO, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Along with her parents, Sandy was preceded in death by her brother and sister in law, Ira L. and Margaret Leake, brothers in law, Allen Thompson and Wayne Janish, sister in law, Kay Janish and grandson, Chance Janish.

A Memorial funeral service will be conducted 3 p.m.  Sunday, April 10, 2016 at Old Argo Presbyterian Church, Sullivan, MO with Pastor Rob Cardwell officiating. There will be a gathering of family and friends from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Sunday, at Old Argo Presbyterian Church.

All arrangements are under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, MO.
