Services for Barbara Jean Dondero, age 87, of Sullivan, were conducted at 10 a.m., Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with interment to follow in Meramec Hills Memorial Garden, Cuba, MO.
Visitation was from 4-8 p.m., Monday evening at the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, MO.
Barbara passed away on Friday, January 20, 2017 at Crabapple Village in St. Clair, MO.
Barbara Jean was born on August 21, 1929 in Sacramento, CA, to the late Antonio and Mary Sanchez. She grew up, attended and graduated from school in Pleasanton, CA. She was united in marriage to Bernie Hughes and four children were born to the marriage; Marsha, Steve, Mark and Matthew. The Hughes family moved between California and Missouri several times, settling in Missouri in 1974. Barbara was employed in the Heath Care Industry for a time and later as a bookkeeper in the family business, B & B Package, in Steelville. Mr. Hughes preceded Barbara in death in1984. She later married Chester Dondero in 1994 and they resided in Sullivan before his death on May 23, 2008. Barbara enjoyed flower gardening, reading, and playing cards. But her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren.
Barbara is survived by her children, Steve Hughes and special friend Martha Patterson of Union, Mark Hughes of Leasburg and Matthew Hughes and wife Michelle of St. Clair; five grandchildren, Raymond, Angelina, Rachel, Lindsey, and Michael; nieces nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Along with her parents and husbands, Barbara was preceded in death by her daughter; Marsha King and two sisters; Inez Jackson and Isabella Sparkman.
Memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association are appreciated.
All arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan and Bourbon.
