Alma Jo Brown 2 colorAlma Jo Brown, of Sullivan, MO, passed away Friday, December 4, 2015 at the age of 87 years.

A. J., as she was known by family and friends, was born October 14, 1928 at Parking, AR, to the late Bennie and Mary (Sones) Shepard. 

On July 26, 1947, she was united in marriage to Lige B. Brown in Gideon, MO and three children were born to their union. A. J. was employed by Thatcher Glass Company in Clayton, MO as an Administrative secretary for many years and retired from there. She and Lige built their retirement home South of Sullivan.

A. J. was known as “Mother Nature.” She enjoyed flower gardening, especially mums and roses. She loved being outside working all day in her yard. A. J. was a very good seamstress, making school clothes for her grandchildren. She was a hard worker, cooking wonderful meals for her family whom she loved with all her heart.

Alma is survived by one son, Terry Brown of Sullivan, MO, one daughter, Belinda Corbitt and husband, David of Sullivan, three grandchildren, Alison Mesger and husband, Chris, Gregory and Philip Cushing, 4 great-grandchildren, Alexandia, Kayden and Alan Cushing and Emma Mesger, one sister, Irene Winston of Cape Girardeau, MO, one brother in law, Calvin Brown of FL, other relatives and friends.

Along with her parents, Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her husband, Lige Brown in 1996, one son, Larry Brown, a granddaughter, Emily Joanne Cushing, and two sisters, Elizabeth Snow and Martha Ellis.

Funeral services were conducted 11 a.m. Friday, December 11, 2015 at the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, MO with Pastor Bob Murphy officiating. Interment was in National Cemetery, Jefferson Barracks, MO.

The Brown family was served by the Eaton Funeral Home.
